The PTO recently discovered that the Kroger program which donates money to the school based on your purchases with a Kroger Plus card is no longer working. There’s a new program which is more of a competition based on how the school is “active” – physically, in the community, etc. For more information, check this out.
To participate in this program, we need to document how “active” we are, and the PTO is getting organized to do so. In the meantime, keep watching this space….

Have you heard talk about how GA Natural Gas customers can sign up for this program that gives free money to the school? True Blue Schools. The address is www.trueblueschools.com and you can also find a link in the list of handy items over there on the right-hand side of this page.
So sign up, okay?

In the next couple of days, this site will feature a link allowing parents and community members to report traffic incidents and concerns so that we can collect them all in a single place and the PTO can take action as needed.
So, as you’re walking, biking, skating, driving, or … well, however you get to and from school, pay attention to things that could be fixed.

The vegetable beds and new fruit trees and blueberries need some TLC in this hot weather. Volunteers have been watering them, but we need more volunteers. If you can spare some time to water please let me know at ascaphus@bellsouth.net or 706-543-4903.

Please meet us in the Art Garden (Near the playground and the media center) for a workday on June 20 from 9 AM to Noon. Bring gloves, bring a wheelbarrow, and bring your shovels and rakes! We’ll be moving soil (and hopefully, rototilling it into the garden), mulching the pathway and doing a bit of planting. Stop by for as little or as long as you can and check out our newest addition to the Chase Street Gardens. All ages are welcome, but parental supervision is required.
See you then–
Stacy Smith

We are getting ready to plant yet another garden at Chase Street Elementary. This time, it will be the art garden (outside the media center, near the kindergarten wing). The area will have a long pathway suitable for children to rest on while they draw in the garden. We do not yet have any funding for this garden and so are starting off with what we have- bricks from the old building, donated mulch for the pathway, leftover soil from the other gardens, and extra plants from people’s gardens.
We are asking people to check their sheds for leftover landscape cloth. The path is FOUR FEET wide so we are hoping we can do a lot of it with what people might have lying around. We are looking for about 300 sq feet (but in small (at least five feet) leftover bits!). Call Stacy Smith (706-543-4903 or ascaphus@bellsouth.net) and I will arrange with you to get the cloth.
If you want to join us, the workday will be MAY 16 from 9 AM to 1 PM. Families welcome!

Volunteers needed to provide food and drinks for this event.
3. Poetry Picnic, Thursday, April 30, 2009
5-7pm Katherine Downs is coordinating (parent side) and Mrs. McElveen (teacher side). We need volunteers to man the booths and run things like our Poetry Walk (instead of Cake Walk), face painting. This is a covered dish event. There was discussion about doing a pig roast donated by a PTO family. All classes working on poetry.
4. Parent Coffee May 1st
Our last coffee of the year. Myra Moore is doing flyers for Monday folders. Jenny has secured Panera bagels and cream cheese (thank you Jenny!) — the teachers get the leftovers which is awesome! Russell Gabriel has volunteered to help with this.
We are also selling 1000faces coffee http://www.1000facescoffee.com/ $3 of every $10 bag goes to the PTO!! Thanks so much to Benjamin Myers of 1000faces coffee.
5. PTO Officers for 2009-2010 School Year
Due to rezoning, we will wait to elect new officers for PTO in the fall (just as we did last year b/c of our PTO being so new and the move to the new school bldg). Nominating Committee: Stacy Smith, Myra Moore, Russell Gabriel, Adam Kurtz.
6. Spring Open House on May 14,2009 6-7pm
This is a school event not a PTO event similar to what was done in the past for incoming K students.
7. School Board Budget Hearings:
There was a discussion about the upcoming budget hearings and the idea of us exploring other options in the 10 page budget besides 1st grade parapros being cut. It was decided that we would try and go as a group to the 28th Alps Road Elem. budget hearing.
8. GA Natural Gas Customers:
Go to www.trueblueschools.com. Ga Natural Gas will donate money to CSE if you are a customer and chose CSE as your school.
